Have fun and build your confidence as you learn from an expert craftsperson how to construct and craft safely with tools. A basic understanding of tools and building techniques opens a world of possibilities for any artist. Practice with tools like the miter-chop saw, drill press, orbital sander, and more to help your creative ideas come to life! You’ll leave this camp with a foundational set of building skills that every maker should have in their toolbelt.

REDUCE, REUSE, DIY! (AFTERNOON)

Discover ways to make art with everyday items from your home or recycling bin! Learn how art can strengthen our community and the world around us as you create a collaborative mural with repurposed materials, turn an old shirt into a usable bag, and recycle paper using the papier mâché sculpting technique.

Roll, pinch, and coil your clay as you learn all about the tradition of ceramic hand building! Practice basics in shaping and attaching pieces of clay together while creating unique works of decorative and functional art like bowls, pots, tiles, and figurines! All creations will be glazed and kiln fired to ensure their durability.

Discover the basics of storytelling and animation as you learn how to sequence your drawings into a cohesive storyline and combine your final drawings into a short film. You will receive a video of the class animations and they will be screened at the Prisms: Summer Art Camp Exhibition.

How can artists show flow and movement with paint? Practice techniques in watercolor and acrylic as you create sweeping landscapes and learn to show motion in 2D. Hone your skills in brushwork, color mixing, media control and alternative painting techniques as you work to create layered and dynamic paintings!

At the intersection of science, technology, engineering, art, and math lies NatureWorks: a weeklong experience aimed to build consciousness of our natural world. Collect, document, and identify samples using 3D and 2D art methods, use math to multiply your findings into a complex and multifaceted work of art, and design your own earth-friendly architecture amongst other STEAM projects!
