Exploring the Ocean Floor (CAMP FULL)

Coral, crabs, and clams, oh my! Together, we’ll look to contemporary artists who are inspired by the ocean floor and discover life beneath the ocean’s surface. Young artists will learn to create sculptures with clay, combine a variety of media to produce works on paper, experiment with resist-dyeing techniques, and sew their own pillows.

Cooking with Clay (CAMP FULL)

Art and function come together in the kitchen! Just like a chef puts their own spin on a recipe, young artists will add their personal touch to everyday, useful kitchen items like salt pinches, spoon rests, and garlic graters as they learn to work with clay and develop their hand-building skills. Somehow everything tastes better when you use kitchen items that you’ve made!

Here’s the Stitch (CAMP FULL)

Young artists will weave, stitch, and sew their way through the week as we delve into the basics of fiber art! Together, we’ll practice popular embroidery stitches, use strings to tell a story, and learn to weave by hand as we create several exciting fiber artworks to take home. We’ll also have the chance to combine our skills to make a collaborative tapestry with our peers.

Sculpting with Clay (CAMP FULL)

Learn the basics of sculpting with clay by hand and have fun while doing it! Together, we’ll practice various hand-building techniques to study and create a life-like endangered ceramic animal. Young artists will perform research, create sketches, and more as they work their way up to their final artworks and engage in the exciting process of transforming wet clay into a fired and glazed artwork that will be treasured for years to come.

How can art be used to transform a community? Together, we’ll use art as a vehicle to communicate ideas that can make a difference in the world. Young artists will engage with a variety of techniques, tools, and artistic media as they learn to creatively express themselves and stand up for what is important to them through the making of monuments, memorials, murals, and more!

With creativity and ingenuity, artists can turn ordinary objects and subjects into extraordinary works of art. Together, we’ll learn how to convert everyday items, like yarn, beans, salt, and flour, into incredible new forms. Young artists will engage with 2D and 3D art practices as they gain confidence in using unconventional art materials to create sculptures, mosaics, and more!

In the summertime, nature gives way to a bonding experience that is uniquely interpreted through artistic adventures! Science, technology, engineering, art, and math will provide inspiration for discussion and a road map for a group journey. With tools like microscopes and identification apps, young artists will gain a better understanding of our Earth as they uncover artistic inspiration through patterns and designs found in nature.

Printmaking is a widely applicable art process that is used in fields such as marketing, fashion design, and more. Young artists will practice their drawing and design skills as they create their prints and produce images on a variety of surfaces. Together, we’ll explore printmaking tools, tips, and techniques as we get a comprehensive introduction to this exciting art form!

Costume Creations (CAMP FULL)

What creature has four arms, five eyes and can fly? Dream up and design your own characters and develop them through the creative practices of costuming! Young artists will explore fabrics with color and texture as they design and construct magical hats and capes, a uniform for a unicorn, and cardboard armor. We’ll learn how to cast in plaster to add details to our costumes and will even dip our toes into performance art as we bring our characters to life!
