Artists from Norfolk State University (NSU) have created work in response to the Virginia MOCA exhibition, Shifting Gaze: A Reconstruction of The Black & Hispanic Body in Contemporary Art. Professors and students from NSU both explored and collaborated to create new artwork inspired by the works in Shifting Gaze. Through their dialogue, they have found richer meaning and deeper context in the artworks of the prominent contemporary artists in Shifting Gaze. Each response could have come from a specific work or many pieces from the exhibition.
The results will be celebrated through a virtual exhibition on VirtualVAMOCA.org. As Shifting Gaze calls for a new perspective, the response from the creative talent at Norfolk State University promises to be exciting and thought provoking.
On November 12 at 6:30pm there will be a special virtual public program with selected NSU artists to shed light on their process and inspiration.
