Gallery Teacher Program¬
The Marynell Gordon Gallery Teacher Program
Our volunteer gallery teachers give their time each week to help students of all ages make meaningful connections to contemporary art. Through our inquiry-based approach to teaching, gallery teachers help foster close observation, critical-thinking, and rich discussion on tours of our current exhibitions. As part of their training, gallery teachers participate in guest speaker sessions, curator-led exhibition overviews, and workshops focused on art education methods. Gallery teachers also help lead several school tours each month and commit to at least one year of volunteer service.
This program is named in memory of longtime Virginia MOCA gallery teacher Marynell Gordon, one of the first volunteers to serve in this role. From 2000 to 2016, Marynell helped shape the early foundation of the Gallery Teacher Program. Her commitment to learning, generosity of spirit, and belief in the power of contemporary art to connect people continue to guide this work.
