New Waves 2019¬

March 23, 2019-August 18, 2019

This year the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art celebrates its 24th juried exhibition, New Waves 2019. Virginia MOCA is honored to support Virginia’s contemporary artists. The Commonwealth holds a broad scope of artistic talent, with a diverse use of materials and approach. This exhibition showcases a small portion of that talent. Virginia MOCA would like to thank our juror, Carmen Hermo, and all the artists who submitted entries to New Waves 2019. The Museum is proud of the lasting New Waves tradition.

Carmen Hermo is the Associate Curator for the Brooklyn Museum’s Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art. She curated the exhibition Roots of “The Dinner Party”: History in the Making, and co-curated exhibitions Half the Picture: A Feminist Look at the Collection and Something to Say: Brooklyn Hi-Art! Machine, Deborah Kass, Kameelah Janan Rasheed, and Hank Willis Thomas. Additionally, she co-organized Marilyn Minter: Pretty/Dirty (2016–17) and Radical Women: Latin American Art, 1960-1985 (2018).
