This year the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art celebrates its 23rd juried exhibition, New Waves 2018. Virginia MOCA is honored to support contemporary artists from our region. The Commonwealth of Virginia holds a vast array of artistic talent, only which a small portion is highlighted in this exhibition. Virginia MOCA would like to thank our juror, Cay Sophie Rabinowitz, and all the artists who submitted entries to New Waves 2018. Virginia MOCA is proud of the lasting New Waves tradition.

Cay-Sophie Rabinowitz (born in Norfolk, Virginia) is Director of OSMOS, a network of independent editorial and curatorial platforms based in New York. Rabinowitz has been Senior Editor of Parkett and Artistic Director of Art Basel as well as faculty at Columbia University and Parsons. She has curated exhibitions internationally in Athens, Beijing, and Berlin, as well as closer to home venues in Atlanta, New York City, and Los Angeles. Rabinowitz has edited and published numerous monographs and critical essays on modern and contemporary art and culture. In 2011 Rabinowitz launched OSMOS Magazine to be an art quarterly “about the use and abuse of photography.” A recognized art world insider, Cay Sophie Rabinowitz, is known for her highly professional yet deeply personal approach.
