Get inspired by the art in our galleries, and explore the art of throwing clay on a potter’s wheel!

First, we’ll dive into the foundations of wheelwork, mastering wedging, centering clay, and shaping cylinders, cups, and bowls. Then, we’ll finish off our work with vibrant glazing techniques that add color, watertightness, and food safety to our forms.

This class is for teens of all skill levels who are interested in working with clay. The primary focus is on skill-building, which means that regardless of prior experience, participants will have the opportunity to enhance their abilities through practicing fundamental techniques. This approach allows students to develop a strong grasp of the basics, which serves as a solid foundation for further exploration and experimentation in the medium.

All materials, including one 25-pound bag of clay per student are provided. Works created during this class will be kiln- and glaze-fired. Students will be contacted by the Museum for later pickup of finished artworks.

Sundays, July 28–August 18
1:00–4:00 PM
