Get inspired by the art in our galleries, and hand-build your own unique portrait mug!

Together, we’ll take a gallery walk to see examples of portraiture in contemporary art, then we will head back to the studio to learn slab-building techniques to shape a cup, add an “arm” handle, and form a clay face. We’ll complete our work by under-glazing on some unique features like jewelry, tattoos, and freckles!

Only bring yourself and your imagination; we’ll provide enough tools, clay, and inspiration for every participant to create two portrait mugs.

This family workshop encourages the creative exploration of materials and is open to school-age children and their accompanying adult. All participants (adults and children) must register.

No prior experience is required. Works created during this class will be kiln- and glaze-fired. Students will be contacted by the Museum for later pickup of finished artworks.
