VIRGINIA MOCA

PLACES AND SPACES (FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN AGES 3–8)

Instructor: Kendall Chandler

Contemporary artists who explore the idea of place in their work are masters of using shape, color, and texture to recreate and imagine a variety of settings. Join us in the galleries to examine the place-based work of Made in VA artists Shara Appanaitis and Riley Goodman, then combine painting, printmaking, and other processes to represent a special space of your own!

Pricing includes supplies for one adult and one child.

Members $20, Nonmembers $25

Saturday, February 19, 3–4 PM
Scholarships are available for this class:

Thanks to The Cohen Memorial Fund at Virginia MOCA, a number of scholarships are offered for children and teens to participate in art education. Everyone deserves to express their creativity. Through these scholarships we hope to provide an understanding and appreciation of the arts to those who might not otherwise be financially able to participate, and to recognize and encourage artistically gifted individuals.

EXHIBITION

Made in VA

MAIN GALLERY

For over 25 years, we have maintained a strong tradition of celebrating regional artists through our annual juried exhibition, New Waves. Our story finds its roots in a concerned and connected artist community. Virginia MOCA has never lost the goal of keeping ties with the talented artists who live close to our doors.

As our community evolves, so will the museum and its traditions. This year, New Waves has become Made in VA. The new title reasserts our commitment to Virginia artists. We will continue to bring together jurors who are at the top of their field with the talented contemporary artists found in the Commonwealth. With the new name come changes intended to strengthen our award program and provide opportunities for the growth and professional development of the selected artists.
