VIRGINIA MOCA

Instructor: Alexandra Cantwell, Norfolk Botanical Garden

Biophilic design is a design style that draws from the natural world. This involves incorporating materials, colors, and visuals that occur in nature into one's home.
Virginia MOCA members are invited to create their own element of biophilic design with the traditional art of Japanese kokedama! This creative Japanese botanical technique focuses on growing plants in a ball of soil covered in moss. Kokedama is an excellent way to bring natural life into the home and a great introduction to biophilic design.

This is a beginner-level workshop that provides the chance to work with an educator from Norfolk Botanical Garden to learn the history and practice of Japanese kokedama. This class will cover an introduction to the topic, followed by a demonstration and hands-on component, complete with the opportunity to build your very own kokedama to take home.

All materials included. Open to children 6+ (with caregiver), teens, and adults. This workshop is open to current Virginia MOCA members only.
