Rowena Federico Finn

Join Made in VA exhibiting artist Rowena Federico Finn for a workshop inspired by her artistic viewpoint! Finn creates shimmering wall hangings using Capiz shells from the shores of the Philippines. She takes a contemporary approach to traditional artmaking practices like quilt-making and embroidery.

In this workshop, open to all ages, we’ll learn to create a hanging work of art using Capiz shells, string, beads, and textiles as our primary artmaking materials. After viewing a demonstration of Finn’s process, walking through the galleries, and engaging in group discussion, we will spend some time practicing with the materials and techniques and then create our own inspired artworks!

All art-making materials will be provided, though participants are encouraged to bring one or two small, flat objects (stickers, pressed flowers, newspaper clippings, photos, etc.) no more than 1–2 inches in size to use in personalizing their piece. Finished works will be suitable to hang as an ornament or pendant.

*Participants under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
