Spring Break Art Camp 2014

Join MOCA for Spring Break Art Camp, a mini version of our popular summer program. Children and teens ages 6-16 exercise their imaginations and express themselves through art classes designed specifically to challenge and inspire.  Spring Break Art Camp takes place April 14th - April 18th, 2014.  For information about registration confirmations or cancelations, or about scholarships, please scroll down past the class descriptions.

Tuition per class: MOCA members $95/Non-members $110, unless otherwise noted.

MOCA Members Only Registration
Registration for MOCA members only begins Monday, February 10 at 9am
You must be an active MOCA member to register on this day. MOCA will accept online, telephone, mail, and in-person registration  on a first-come, first-served basis. 

Non-member Registration
General registration begins Tuesday, February 11th at 9am.  
Non-members are welcome to register starting on this day. MOCA will accept online, telephone, mail, and in-person registration on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Tuition and fees are due in full upon registration. Registration deadline is one week before the course start date.
  • If you would like to become a MOCA member, please visit click here for more information. 
  • Minimum enrollment for courses is eight Art Campers, unless otherwise noted. Instructors may be substituted without notification. Courses are held at MOCA. Classroom activities may be photographed for MOCA promotional use. 

Students Ages 6-8

Ceramic Time-Travelers

Instructor: Emily Calderon
Travel back in time in the ceramics studio to learn how Neolithic people created ceramics using hand building and sculpting techniques. Throughout the week, students will learn lots of different forms of clay sculpting and will experiment with ways to decorate and create pattern on their works.

Creative Concoctions

Instructor: Megan Aguilar
In this camp, students will experiment with various art ‘ingredients’ to create works of art that look good enough to eat!
Whether the young artists are cooking up cake paintings or making 3-Dimensional cupcake sculptures, students will learn about artists who are inspired by food and express their own personal style with their work in this scrumptious camp!

Students Ages 9-11

Creative Concoctions

Instructor: Megan Aguilar
In this camp, students will experiment with various art ‘ingredients’ like plaster, fiber, string, and paint to create works of art that look good enough to eat! Whether the young artists are cooking up cake paintings or making 3-Dimensional cupcake sculptures, students will learn about artists who are inspired by food and express their own personal style with their work in this scrumptious camp!

Batik: Soft Sculpture Animal
SB144; 12:15-3pm
Instructor: Iona Drozda
Design and make a soft, sculptural animal-shaped pillow that you can hug and rest your head on! Use a child-friendly batik technique using glue to draw on fabric, then paint and wash out the glue to reveal the characteristic deep, rich colors and fine crinkle lines of batik. Stitch your animal sculpture together and stuff with cotton batting.

TEENS Ages 12-16

Introduction to Animation
TSB141; 12:15-3pm
Instructor: Sarah Strader
Dive into the world of computer animation this Spring Break! Students will learn about the history of animation while designing a character that moves by creating a step-by-step walk cycle. Timing is key, and students will experiment with how to break down each frame to make things move more accurately and bring their character to life.

Confirmation/Reminder

It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to record course start dates. Once registered Art Campers receive a confirmation e-mail through MOCA's Eshop, and will also receive a reminder email the week before the start of each camp. In the unlikely event that a course is cancelled, you will be notified as soon as possible.

Refunds

Refunds are only available if a course is cancelled by MOCA due to low enrollment. Art Campers cancelling enrollment before the registration deadline will receive a tuition credit voucher, minus a $5 processing fee, which may only be applied to another class at MOCA. No tuition credits will be given after the registration deadline, no exceptions.

Lunch Bunch/ Snack Policy

Art Campers may attend morning courses, afternoon courses or both for a full day of Art Camp. Those registered for the full day should bring a non-perishable lunch, drink and snack and will be supervised by museum staff during a 30-minute lunch break. Students registered for one class in the morning or afternoon may also bring a non-sugary snack/drink if desired. Snack and lunch foods containing peanuts or peanut products are not permitted at MOCA for the safety of all Art Campers.
