Holiday Craft Sale Artist Information

The Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) is excited to host its 8th annual Holiday Craft Sale and Family Fest! MOCA invites artisans who work in all media, including ceramics, metals, glass, fiber arts, paper arts, and other handmade goods, including toiletries and gourmet food items, to apply! A jury will review all applications and make selections to ensure quality and variety. Artists keep all proceeds of their sales, but once accepted must purchase a table space in order to participate. Proceeds raised from the sale of table spaces will benefit MOCA’s education and exhibition programming.

Application Process:

  • Applications accepted starting: Aug 1, 2017.   
  • Application deadline: Oct 13 at 9:30am. 
  • Late application deadline: Nov 13 at 9:30am with a $10 late fee.
  • Applicants will be notified via email by Oct 17 regarding their acceptance status to the show.
  • Accepted artists must pay their table fee no later than 10am on Nov 13. Your space is not final until payment is received. If full payment is not received by Nov 13, artist is subject to additional $20 late fee or you may forfeit his/her space in the Holiday Craft Sale.
  • While you have the opportunity to share table space (see below under Artist Space), each artist must submit an individual application.  Please indicate on the application if you intend to share a space.

 

Table Fee:

  • 6’ table (15 sq ft): $80
  • 8’ table (20 sq ft): $100
     

 

Artist Space:

  • Your space is not confirmed until full payment is received.
  • There are no refunds once you have committed to the sale. If you cannot attend the event, then please call 757-425-0000 x. 319 to notify.
  • Artists may begin set up at 8:00am on Sat, Dec 2. The event begins promptly at 10am.
  • Tables will be assigned based on your 6’ or 8’ table preference and table quantity. A designated floor plan will be predetermined for table placement, so you may not move your table. MOCA staff will be available on the day of the event to help direct, though we ask that everyone be accommodating, flexible and cordial to other participants.
  • Two chairs will be provided for all artists. There is no discount for artists who choose not to use the provided table or chairs.
  • Artists must provide their own tablecloths or coverings. Artists are responsible for set-up and break-down of their table displays. If needed, please bring your own handcarts for loading and unloading.
  • No large easels, additional tables or booth displays are allowed on the premises. Table size easels, plate stands and other small display props are permitted on the table.
  • Artists are limited to using table space only, so you may want to consider purchasing multiple tables. Artists may partner with other artists on the cost of a table.  Fees for shared tables must be made at one time, either in single or multiple transactions.
  • Electricity is not available due to safety concerns.

 

Promotions:

MOCA will promote the event which coincides with our popular Free Family Fest through email blasts to over 10,000 people, print advertisements, radio advertising, flyer distribution throughout the community and online promotions. We encourage all artists to also promote the event through their own social media outlets.

 

General Information:

  • Artists keep all proceeds of their sales.
  • Artists are required to pay Virginia Beach City Sales Tax. (forms provided)
  • MOCA is not held liable for any damage caused while work is on premise.
  • Photographs may be taken for future MOCA promotion.
  • Feel free to bring business cards and any promotional materials as these may be displayed on your table accompanying your work. We encourage artists to sell their merchandise in a wide range of price points to appeal to the spirit of handmade gift giving this holiday season.

 

Prohibited:

We do not allow and reserve the right to remove from the Holiday Craft Sale:

  • Buy/sell items 
  • Commercially manufactured work
  • Any work incorporating commercial decals or other commercial motifs
  • Items made from kits

 

Waiting List:

If necessary, there will be a waiting list of applicants, who will be notified if a table space becomes available. Contacted waiting list applicants will have three days to pay the fee and commit to the show. After three days the table space will be offered to the next applicant on the waiting list.

 

Cancellations:

Once your artist fee is received, it cannot be refunded. If you cannot participate in the show for any reason, please contact Ashley Lambert at Ashley@VirginiaMOCA.org as soon as possible. For artists who have paid but are unable to participate, MOCA will provide a donation letter to acknowledge your tax-deductible donation.
